Audit 2024 Results

Thank you to everyone who took part in the 2024 Audit.

We collectively logged 331,783 single-use items avoided through the use of party kits!

We have now logged over 1 MILLION items since we started counting in 2020.

And new for 2024, we have celebrated individual party kit achievements with a new Awards.

How the audit works...

Each year we count up the number of times reusable plates, cups, bowls and cutlery are lent within a 12-month period. This is one of the ways we can measure the positive impact of party kits.

The next audit will be open from 8 September 2025 until 22nd September 2025.

The 2025 Audit will cover the lending period 1 August 2024 to 31 July 2025.

How to keep track...

There is a template for recording your bookings which will automatically track the number of items hired out

To complete the audit you need to calculate your impact

This is the total number of reusable tableware items lent between:

1st August 2023 and 31st July 2024

The 6 reusable items we count are:

  1. plates

  2. cups

  3. bowls

  4. knives

  5. forks

  6. spoons

There's a calculator below for working out a rough number based on the number of hires and average party kit size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we run an audit?

The primary reason is to understand the collective impact of party kits and the waste we have all helped avoid. The audit also allows me to ensure our map is up-to-date and gather feedback from members.

It’s also an opportunity for those of us who run party kits to recognise and celebrate our achievements reducing waste.

When will the 2025 Audit open?

The next Audit will open on Mon 8th September 2025. It will close on Mon 22nd September 2025.

What lending period does the 2025 Audit cover?

It covers ALL uses of your party kit from 1 August 2024 to 31 July 2025. Any uses since 1 August 2025 will go towards next year’s audit figure.

What is counted in the audit?

We count the number of times the following party kit items are used over the 12-month period: plates, cups, bowls, and cutlery.

We normally don’t count serving platters, jugs, or decorations. (If you’ve already calculated your total including these items, don’t worry, just log that).

Is it just items which came from bookings via the Party Kit Network website?
No, we count all uses of your party kit. You don't need to keep track of how borrowers found your parry kit.

How can I work out how many single-use items my party kit has avoided?

For each hire, multiply the number of guests by the number of item types lent.

For example:

  • A party for 30 using plates and cups totals 60 items (30 x 2)

  • A party for 30 using a full kit, including cutlery, totals 180 items (30 x 6)

If this all seems a bit too complicated, there is a calculator here to help you create an estimate. You can also use the Booking Tracker spreadsheet available for a more accurate figure.

Do I include items which were lent but returned unused?

Yes please. An unused item is still counted as a replacement for a disposable which may have been purchased and then not used.

Can I include personal use of my party kit?

Yes, every use of the tableware in your party kit counts.

My party kit was only used a few times. Is it still worth taking part?

YES! Every item avoided helps to add to our total, so please take part even if your party kit was used once.

I don’t know how many times my party kit was used. What should I do?

Please make a best guess and multiply the number of uses by the total number of plates, cups, bowls, and cutlery items in your kit. An estimate is fine.

I joined the Network during the Audit period. Can I include numbers from uses before I joined?

Yes. You’re welcome to add all uses of your party kit to the number you submit for the audit. The number is your own kit’s impact on waste and we want to celebrate that with you.

I didn’t take part in the audit last year but did lend out my party kit. Can I add 2023-24 numbers to this year?

Yes you can add any historic figures not previously reported to your figure for this year.

The form is too complicated! Can I just email you my audit data?

Yes, you can. Please make it clear whether you’re sending the total number of hires or the total number of items avoided. Just reply to this email.

Ah, I missed the deadline. What should I do?

Please email me with your data.

What happens to the data?

I never publish the data provided by each individual party kit unless I contact you first for permission. I will publish a collective total for the whole Network and a total by country. This information is shared in our annual impact report (read our 2023 report), on our website and social media, and in the report submitted to Companies House in the UK.

Where can I get help with running a party kit?

I’ve handed my party kit over to another person / organisation. What should I do?

Please ask them to drop us an email. If you have lending data from the Audit period it would be great if you could pass this onto the new owners.

What if my party kit has closed?

If your party kit is no longer in use, please let me know. This helps keep our map and records accurate.
